Gerry Moorhead was at the center of an "appropriation" scandal involving some currently "hot" artists. Moorhead created a mural in Brooklyn Public School PS 130 quoting a John Lennon phrase, "Imagine all the people living life in peace."  In 2013, John Teplin recreated the piece in block letters above some Miro-inspired shapes. Following this, artist Jamian Juliano-Villani did a different take in 2015, leaving the Miro images in place. The Juliano-Villani piece was represented by Gavin Brown's enterprise. Teplin argued that his artwork was copied by Juliano-Villani who argued that in art "Everything is a reference."
