Jonathan Callan (b. 1961) was born in Manchester and lives and works in London. He attended Goldsmiths College of Art and Slade School of Fine Art. Callan often uses books, maps and photographs as source material. His work has been exhibited extensively in museums and galleries throughout Europe and the United States and is included in major museum collections. The Girl with the Pearl Earring has evoked responses from generations of artists. This take on the original has a unique force all its own. Long considered an “artist’s artist”, Callan displays his exemplary vivid imagery in one of his most “classic” works.
